Shira Maguen, Ph.D. is Mental Health Director of the Post-9/11 Integrated Care Clinic and Staff Psychologist on the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Clinical Team (PCT) at the San Francisco VA Health Care System (SFVAHCS), and Vice Chair of SFVAHCS and Professor in the Dept. of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, UCSF School of Medicine. Dr. Maguen was appointed to and served on the Creating Options for Veterans' Expedited Recovery (COVER) Commission.

Ashley Mason, PhD

Ashley Mason, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at UCSF. She is core research faculty at the UCSF Osher Center and a clinical psychologist leading behavioral sleep medicine treatment in the UCSF Osher Center Clinic. She is Director of the UCSF Sleep, Affect, and Eating (SEA) Lab. She is the Co-Director of the UCSF Center for Obesity Assessment, Study, and Treatment (COAST). She is primarily a researcher (85% time) but also does clinical work (15% time).

Stefanie Mayer, PhD

Stefanie E. Mayer, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor at the UCSF Department of Psychiatry Center for Health and Community. She is a clinical psychologist and received her PhD from the University of Michigan. Stefanie`s research focuses on the biopsychosocial pathways by which stress exposure – throughout the lifespan – can get “under the skin” and increase risk for adverse physical and mental health outcomes.

Wendy Berry Mendes, PhD

Wendy Berry Mendes is the Sarlo/Ekman Professor of Emotion at UC San Francisco.  Her research questions sit at the intersection of social, personality, and biological psychology and primarily concern questions regarding embodiment - how emotions, thoughts, and intentions are experienced in the body and how bodily responses shape and influence thoughts, behavior and emotions.

Dieter Meyerhoff, PhD

Dieter Meyerhoff, PhD, is a Professor in Residence in the Department of Radiology at the University of California, San Francisco and at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He is also Co-Director of the Treatment Research Center in the Department of Psychiatry at UCSF. Dr. Meyerhoff completed his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Westphälische Wilhelms Universität in Münster, Germany, and he obtained his PhD in Chemistry at Westphälische Wilhelms Universität, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship from the University of California, Berkeley Department of Chemistry.

Julia Moore

 Julia Moore is the Lab Manager for the Emotion, Health, and Psychophysiology Lab. She graduated from Santa Clara University in June 2018 with a B.S. in Psychology. Her research interests broadly include social power, conformity, and emotion regulation, particularly emotion suppression, and their implications on relationships. Julia plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Social Psychology in the future.

Aoife O'Donovan, PhD

Dr. O'Donovan is currently a Society in Science: Branco Weiss Fellow at the University of California, San Francisco and the San Francisco Veteran's Affairs Medical Center. Her research is focused on uncovering the mechanisms by which psychological experiences influence the development of age-related diseases. She is particularly interested in how psychosocial stress influences the biological aging process.

Matt Pantell, MD, MS

Dr. Pantell worked at the Health Policy Center of the Urban Institute before attending the UC Berkeley - UCSF Joint Medical Program for medical school, where he earned an MD and a Master's in Health and Medical Sciences focusing on social epidemiology. He then completed his residency in pediatrics and was Chief Resident at the University of California, San Francisco. He was also a fellow in the Clinical Research Training Program at the NIH, where his work focused on biomarkers of social adversity.
